"blue blood" by Emily Nuñez

cast me a spell to let my blood run blue.

boil wild indigo, activate under the moon.

a spell that halts oxidation once the cells finally breathe.

once it seeps into my veins,

i have new blood,

blue blood,

for all those who spilt red.

blood kept warm as it trickles from open wounds.

history’s viscose embrace

hardens into a chrysalis,

and i emerge indigo
